These Mozzarella Mummy Pizza Bites are a fun, festive Halloween appetizer featuring gooey mozzarella wrapped in flaky puff pastry, brushed with garlic butter, and baked until golden. Perfect for parties, they’re quick to make and disappear in minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet (about 250g) frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 8–10 small fresh mozzarella balls (bocconcini or ciliegine), patted dry
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 clove garlic, minced (or ½ teaspoon garlic powder)
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ⅛ teaspoon black pepper
  • Marinara sauce, for dipping
  • Mini candy eyes (optional, for the mummy face)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line your baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Pat the mozzarella balls completely dry with a paper towel. Set them aside on a plate.
  3. In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine. Set aside.
  4. Lightly flour your cutting board. Unfold the thawed puff pastry sheet. Using a rolling pin, gently roll it out to a 10×12 inch rectangle, about ⅛-inch thick.
  5. Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, cut the pastry sheet into ½-inch wide strips. You should get about 12-14 strips.
  6. Take one mozzarella ball and place it at one end of a pastry strip. Wrap the strip around the cheese, slightly overlapping the dough as you go, leaving a small gap in the center for the ‘face.’ Repeat with all the cheese balls.
  7. Arrange the wrapped mozzarella balls on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches of space between each one.
  8. Using your pastry brush, generously brush each mummy bite with the garlic butter mixture.
  9. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed, golden brown, and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. Remove from the oven and let the mummy bites cool on the baking sheet for 2-3 minutes. If using candy eyes, gently press them onto the warm cheese in the exposed gap.
  11. Transfer the mozzarella mummy pizza bites to a serving platter with a bowl of warm marinara sauce for dipping. Serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, keep the puff pastry cold. If the dough gets too warm while wrapping, refrigerate the wrapped bites for 10 minutes before baking. Pat the mozzarella dry to prevent soggy pastry. You can assemble the bites up to 4 hours in advance and refrigerate until ready to bake.
