A quick and delicious weeknight dinner featuring perfectly seared salmon glazed with a sweet and savory honey garlic sauce, served with tender steamed broccoli. Ready in under 25 minutes with minimal cleanup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 salmon fillets (6 ounces each, skin on or off)
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (low sodium recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon butter (optional)
  • 1 large head broccoli, cut into florets (about 4 cups)
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
  • 1 green onion, sliced (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prep your ingredients. Take the salmon out of the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes. Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels and season both sides lightly with salt and pepper. Cut the broccoli into bite-sized florets. Mince the garlic. In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, and red pepper flakes if using.
  2. Heat the skillet. Place a large skillet with a lid over medium-high heat and add the olive oil. Let it heat up for about 2 minutes until shimmering but not smoking.
  3. Sear the salmon. Carefully place the salmon fillets in the hot skillet, presentation side down. Cook undisturbed for 4 minutes. Flip each fillet and cook for another 2 minutes on the second side until golden brown.
  4. Add the glaze. Pour the honey garlic mixture over the salmon fillets. Let it bubble and reduce for about 1 minute, basting the salmon with the glaze. If using butter, add it now and let it melt into the glaze.
  5. Remove the salmon. Transfer the glazed salmon fillets to a plate and cover loosely with foil to keep warm. Do not wipe out the skillet.
  6. Steam the broccoli. Add the broccoli florets to the same skillet with the remaining glaze. Add 2 tablespoons of water and a pinch of salt. Immediately cover the skillet with the lid and steam for 3 to 4 minutes until fork-tender but still bright green.
  7. Finish and serve. Remove the lid and toss the broccoli in the pan juices. Serve the salmon alongside the steamed broccoli. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and sliced green onions if desired. Drizzle any remaining pan sauce over everything.

Notes

Pat the salmon dry for the best sear. Don’t move the salmon while searing; it will release naturally when the crust forms. Watch the glaze carefully as honey burns quickly. Use the same pan for broccoli to infuse it with flavor and minimize cleanup. Let the salmon rest for a minute or two before serving. For gluten-free, use tamari or coconut aminos instead of soy sauce. For dairy-free, omit the butter.
