These witch finger pretzel rods are the perfect Halloween treat: quick, easy, and delicious. Made with just three ingredients, they look impressively creepy but come together in under 20 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 24 pretzel rods (thick, sturdy ones like Snyder’s of Hanover)
  • 12 ounces white chocolate melting wafers (about 2 cups, e.g., Ghirardelli or Wilton)
  • 24 whole blanched almonds
  • Red food coloring (optional, for ‘blood’ effect)
  • Green or purple sanding sugar (optional, for extra creepiness)

Instructions

  1. Prep your workspace: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Lay out pretzel rods, almonds, and any decorations.
  2. Melt the white chocolate: Place melting wafers in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals at 50% power, stirring between each, until smooth (about 2-3 intervals).
  3. Test the chocolate temperature: Dip a clean finger into the chocolate; it should feel warm but not hot. Let cool if needed.
  4. Dip the pretzel rods: Hold a pretzel rod by one end and dip the other two-thirds into the melted white chocolate. Gently twist and tap to remove excess.
  5. Place on the baking sheet: Lay the dipped pretzel on the parchment-lined sheet, leaving space between each.
  6. Attach the almond fingernail: While chocolate is still wet, press a whole blanched almond onto the dipped tip, pointed end outward. Press gently so about one-third is embedded.
  7. Add creepy details: Use a toothpick to dab red food coloring at the base of the almond for a ‘bloody cuticle’ effect, or sprinkle sanding sugar over wet chocolate.
  8. Let them set: Allow to set at room temperature for 20-30 minutes until firm and no longer shiny. Do not refrigerate.
  9. Add optional drizzles: If desired, melt additional white or dark chocolate and drizzle over set pretzels using a piping bag or zip-top bag with snipped corner.
  10. Serve or store: Carefully lift off parchment. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks.

Notes

For best results, use white chocolate melting wafers rather than chips. Keep pretzels at room temperature before dipping. Work in small batches to prevent chocolate from setting. Do not refrigerate to set, as condensation will cause cloudiness.
