Tender pulled pork cooked low and slow in a honey garlic sauce, served on soft slider buns. Perfect for easy Labor Day gatherings or any casual get-together.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 34 pounds pork shoulder (Boston butt)
  • 1/4 cup honey (85 g)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (60 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar (30 ml)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (15 ml)
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste (30 g)
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika (2 g)
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder (2 g)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (1 g)
  • 1 teaspoon salt (5 g)
  • 12 small slider buns
  • Optional toppings: coleslaw, pickles, sliced jalapeños

Instructions

  1. Trim and prep the pork by removing excess fat but leaving some for juiciness. Pat dry with paper towels.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, smoked paprika, onion powder, black pepper, and salt until smooth.
  3. Place the pork shoulder in the slow cooker insert and pour the sauce evenly over the pork, coating it well.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours until the pork is tender and shreds easily.
  5. Remove the pork carefully and shred it using two forks in a large bowl. Pour some cooking juices back over the shredded pork to keep it moist.
  6. Warm the slider buns briefly in the oven or microwave.
  7. Assemble sliders by piling pulled pork on buns and adding optional toppings like coleslaw, pickles, or jalapeños.
  8. Serve immediately or keep warm in the slow cooker on the ‘keep warm’ setting.

Notes

Searing the pork before slow cooking adds extra flavor but is optional. Keep the slow cooker lid on during cooking to retain moisture. If sauce is too thin after cooking, simmer on stovetop to thicken. Let pork rest before shredding for juicier texture. Reserve some sauce to toss with shredded pork for extra flavor. For gluten-free, use tamari or coconut aminos instead of soy sauce and gluten-free buns. For dairy-free, avoid creamy toppings.
