A quick and easy Halloween punch that looks like liquid velvet and tastes like a haunted carnival. Made with grape juice, lemonade, and ginger ale, this spooky drink is perfect for parties and takes only five minutes to prepare.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups (960 ml) purple grape juice
  • 2 cups (480 ml) lemonade
  • 2 cups (480 ml) ginger ale
  • 1–2 teaspoons black food coloring
  • Ice cubes (optional: freeze gummy worms or plastic spiders inside)
  • Fresh blackberries or raspberries (optional)
  • Sliced lemons or limes (optional)
  • Edible glitter or shimmer dust (optional)

Instructions

  1. Chill the grape juice, lemonade, and ginger ale in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes (optional but recommended).
  2. Pour 4 cups of purple grape juice into a large pitcher or punch bowl.
  3. Add 2 cups of lemonade and stir gently.
  4. Slowly pour in 2 cups of ginger ale and stir gently in a figure-eight motion to preserve fizz.
  5. Add 1 teaspoon of black food coloring and stir thoroughly for about 30 seconds. Add more food coloring (up to 1/2 teaspoon at a time) until the desired black velvet color is achieved.
  6. Taste and adjust sweetness or tartness by adding a splash of lemon juice or more grape juice if needed.
  7. Fill the pitcher with ice cubes and add optional garnishes (blackberries, lemon slices, edible glitter).
  8. Serve immediately in glasses, ensuring each glass gets ice and fruit.

Notes

For best results, use gel black food coloring. Add ginger ale and ice just before serving to keep the fizz. To make ahead, prepare the base (grape juice, lemonade, and food coloring) up to 2 days in advance and refrigerate. For an adult version, replace 1 cup of ginger ale with vodka or rum.
